Delusions of Grandeur
"Delusions of Grandeur" is a conceptual womenswear collection, inspired by the narcissistic tendencies of millennial youth, manifest through attention-seeking "selfies" posted to social media. The garments are built from unassuming cotton canvas and utilitarian hardware, then painstakingly layered with shades of bright, mirror-like gold foil by hand, forcing the designer to confront and reflect on whether self-love, shamelessness, delusion, and vanity amongst herself and her peers are an inevitable side-effect of the increasing involvement of technology in our personal relationships, or if exposing the vulnerability behind them could humanize and connect the viewer and the wearer. The garments are internally structured to create contorted shapes around the body, and over time, the shapes will break down and the foil will wear away. This deconstructive process is a metaphor of what you can see if you dig deep into the human psyche to understand the motivation behind such shameless vanity.
